The police on Thursday arraigned a 42-year-old man, Adams Obanibi, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged N2 million fraud.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of fraud.

The prosecutor, Insp Olubu Apata, told the court that defendant committed the offence on Aug. 21, 2020 in Ado-Ekiti.

Apata said that the defendant obtained the sum of N2 million from the complainant, Mrs Ojuawo Kehinde, on the pretext of selling five plots of land to her.

He said that the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The defence counsel, Mr Michael Olaleye, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Awosika adjourned the case till March 10, for hearing. (NAN)
