Pi Network has officially announced that its Open Network will go live on February 20, 2025, marking a major milestone after six years of development and engagement by millions of users.
The announcement was made on February 12, 2025, via the Pi Core Team’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to the Pi Core Team, the Open Network launch will introduce external connectivity, allowing Pi users (Pioneers) to integrate Pi with external systems and expand its real-world applications.

The launch, scheduled for 8:00 AM UTC, will remove the existing firewall restrictions on Pi’s layer-1 blockchain, enabling external transactions beyond the Pi ecosystem.
The Pi Core Team outlined other key features that will accompany the Open Network launch such as the ability for Pioneers to migrate their nodes from Testnet to Mainnet, with priority given to those with strong contribution histories, business compliance measures requiring KYC verification for users and KYB verification for businesses participating in the Mainnet.
A list of KYB-verified businesses will be made available on the Pi Network website after the launch, providing Pioneers with trusted partners for transactions.
The Pi Core Team encouraged Pioneers, businesses, and developers to actively participate in the Open Network phase by continuing mining in line with Pi’s issuance model, supporting Pi Apps to expand its use in everyday commerce, completing KYC verification for seamless integration, and developing new Mainnet applications to enhance Pi’s ecosystem.
Following the announcement, Pi (IOU) experienced a 70 percent price surge on CoinMarketCap, reflecting heightened anticipation among investors and the Pi community.
The Pi Core Team credited the community’s collective efforts over the past six years for making this launch possible and urged Pioneers to check the Pi mining app for more details.
