Peter Obi has disclosed that his decision to join the coalition ahead of the 2027 elections is driven by a commitment to tackle poverty, hunger, and bad governance in Nigeria.

Speaking at an event in Kubwa, Abuja, where he donated to a school and hospital project organized by the Anglican Church, Obi made it clear that his involvement is focused on national development rather than personal political ambition.
He neither confirmed nor denied reports suggesting an agreement with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to serve as his vice-presidential candidate. Instead, Obi emphasized that his primary goal is to address the country’s pressing social and economic challenges through collective action.
Obi and Atiku have a shared political history, having run together on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket in 2019 before Obi’s defection to the Labour Party. However, the nature of their current political relationship remains unclear amid the emerging coalition talks.
In a related statement, Obi also clarified that his recent trip to Rome to attend the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV was purely a spiritual visit. He noted that this aligns with his tradition of participating in important global events and should not be seen as a political engagement.
