Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has confirmed his intention to contest in the 2027 presidential election, stating that he would serve only one four-year term if elected.

The former Anambra State governor made this known during a live interaction with his supporters on X Spaces, where he addressed national challenges and outlined his vision for the country.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Umar, Obi dismissed claims of a possible alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar but indicated openness to forming coalitions aimed at addressing Nigeria’s economic and security concerns.

He stated that Nigeria needs leaders who are focused on solving the country’s problems and committed to national development. Obi said he is confident that his administration would stabilize the country within two years, and he called on Nigerians to support his mission to rebuild the nation.

On the ongoing internal crisis within the Labour Party, Obi explained that steps are being taken to ensure that the faction led by Nenadi Usman receives recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in line with a Supreme Court ruling.

He also expressed support for the rotation of power between the North and South, describing it as necessary for national unity and fair representation.

Obi criticized President Bola Tinubu’s reported trip to St. Lucia, questioning the timing of such travel amidst pressing national issues. He emphasized that his campaign for 2027 will be peaceful, transparent, and centered on core priorities such as security, education, and poverty alleviation, particularly within the first 100 days in office.

He further pledged to end the trend of elected officials defecting to other political parties and stressed the need for stronger opposition and more responsible governance. Obi accused the current administration of misplaced priorities and reiterated the importance of leadership grounded in integrity and accountability.
