The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDPGF) has officially rejected any merger or coalition with other political parties, stating that the PDP will not participate in such alliances.

The Forum emphasized that it is open to welcoming individuals, groups, or other parties that are aligned with its goal of challenging the ruling party in the 2027 general elections.

Daily News 24 reports that this information was disclosed in a communiqué issued after the Forum’s 2025/4th meeting held on Monday, 14th April 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The communiqué was signed by H.E. Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

In the communiqué, the Forum also reiterated its position on the National Secretary of the party, recommending that the Deputy National Secretary acts as National Secretary pending the nomination and ratification of a substantive Secretary from the South East Zone. The matter will be addressed at the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

The governors resolved to approach the Supreme Court for a clear ruling on the legal provisions regarding the declaration of a state of emergency in any state. They also expressed full support for Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, whose administration is grappling with the effects of the state of emergency imposed on the region.

On security, the Forum expressed deep concern over the worsening situation, especially in states like Borno, Plateau, Katsina, and Edo. The governors called for a review of security strategies, recommending a bottom-up approach that empowers local governments and sub-national entities to take a stronger role in addressing insecurity. The Forum condemned the recent attacks in Plateau State, offering condolences to the victims and their families.

The Forum resolved to convene a NEC meeting on May 27, 2025, and establish a Zoning Committee to address issues related to the zoning of party offices. The Committee will be chaired by Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, with Governors Dauda Lawal of Zamfara and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau serving as Vice Chairman and Secretary, respectively. The PDP’s National Convention is scheduled to take place in Kano on August 28–30, 2025.

Finally, the Forum expressed its gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State for their hospitality in hosting the meeting.
