Politician and publisher, Dele Momodu, has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, describing the decision as a political advantage handed directly to President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement on Tuesday, Momodu said the opposition party had “surrendered its influence and bowed to needless pressure,” accusing some PDP members of colluding with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He alleged that the arrangement was influenced by former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, who he claimed was working to strengthen Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term in office. “Any sensible person knows this is Wike’s project but Tinubu’s voice. Their plan is no secret,” he said.

Momodu also accused the PDP of betraying its loyalists in Rivers State, pointing to the party’s silence during the crisis involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He recalled how Wike had once rejected zoning in 2022 while seeking a vice-presidential ticket with a northern candidate, yet now insists that power must return to the South.

The media mogul dismissed talks that former President Goodluck Jonathan, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, or Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde might emerge as consensus candidates, describing such speculations as “false narratives” with no basis in reality.
