Speaking in Abuja during the Women Icon Leader of the Year award ceremony, Jonathan emphasized the importance of rotational leadership, describing it as a strategy crucial to promoting unity and inclusivity across Nigeria’s diverse population.

She announced her intention to campaign alongside the First Lady and President Tinubu, highlighting her longstanding relationship with Senator Tinubu, which she noted began long before their time in the presidential villa. Patience Jonathan recalled the support she and her husband received from the Tinubus during their 2011 presidential campaign.

She ruled out any interest in returning to Aso Rock, making it clear that her focus is on supporting her friend and the current leadership. In a light-hearted moment, she noted her intention to playfully engage the First Lady, referencing their close personal bond.

Patience Jonathan also used the occasion to reaffirm her support for the 35% affirmative action for women in governance. She expressed concern over the repeated failure of gender equality bills at the National Assembly and stressed the importance of women playing complementary roles in governance rather than competing for dominance.

She pointed to the impact of her non-governmental organizations, which have empowered thousands of women and youths through vocational training programs and provided assistance to children requiring medical interventions abroad.

The event, organized by Accolade Dynamics Limited, was designed to recognize individuals who have made meaningful contributions to leadership, mentorship, and community development. According to the organizers, the award was a celebration of efforts dedicated to advancing the well-being of women and society at large.
