At least 40 people are reportedly trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building in the Sabon Lugbe area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

The incident, which took place early Saturday, has prompted a large-scale response from emergency workers and local sympathizers, who are actively working to rescue those caught in the debris.

The building, believed to be under construction, came down in the early hours of the morning, triggering urgent calls for immediate government intervention and additional emergency support.

“No fewer than 40 persons are currently trapped in a building collapse that occurred in the Sabon Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,” an eyewitness on the scene reported. “People are under this rubble. It is a building under construction. We are calling on the government and relevant agencies to come and rescue those who are trapped here.”

This incident follows a similar building collapse just weeks ago in Abuja’s Kubwa area, where a section of a two-storey residential building fell. In that case, four individuals were rescued, though it was initially feared that more people were trapped. The Kubwa building, located close to Cupid Hotel on Sultan Dasuki Way, had raised concerns about building safety standards in the capital.

Authorities have yet to release official details on the current situation in Sabon Lugbe, but efforts to bring people out from the rubble continue as onlookers and rescue teams unite in the operation.
