Over 1,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have dumped the party and joined the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano.
This was revealed in a statement issued to Daily News 24 by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, the Press Secretary to the state’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo on Saturday.
Mr Shuaibu said the decampees, from Shanono and Bagwai local government areas, were formally received by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Kano State Government House.
The Deputy Governor “emphasized that the NNPP prioritizes unity and all members will be treated equally.”
According to Mr Shuaibu, “Deputy Governor Gwarzo reiterated the administration’s commitment to implementing programs that benefit all of Kano State and urged continued support from residents for the state’s progress.”

Speaking earlier, Alhaji Haruna Babangida Abbas (Kosashe), leader of the defectors, cited Governor Abba’s leadership qualities and governance style as reasons for their move.
He expressed regret for their past APC affiliation and pledged their dedication to working with the NNPP for Kano’s betterment.
Also Speaking, Kano NNPP Chairman Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa welcomed the new members and assured their involvement in party activities.
He encouraged members of other parties, including the APC, to join the NNPP for the state’s advancement.
Dungurawa also urged support for the government’s programs and policies.
“The event was attended by prominent figures like the Kano State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alhaji Musa Suleiman Shanono, and several NNPP stakeholders who celebrated the influx of the new members,” the statement read.
Recently, the APC in Kano state has been hit with a crisis following the controversial suspension of its National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, by the ward executives of the party in his native Ganduje ward in the state.
Mr Ganduje’s suspension had also been affirmed by a state high court before he later countered the court’s order by seeking an injunction at a federal high court, which stopped his suspension.
The contradictory orders, both from courts of co-ordinate jurisdictions have raised concern by analysts over the peace and security of the state.
