The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of 98 suspects involved in various criminal activities following the launch of its new security operation, “Operation Kukan Kura,” aimed at enhancing public safety and tackling crime across the state.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing held on Thursday at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano.
He said the operation, which began on July 1, was initiated in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to promote community-based policing and encourage public participation in crime prevention efforts.
According to CP Bakori, the special operation is focused on combating thuggery within Kano metropolis, banditry and kidnapping along border communities, drug abuse, and other social vices. Within 24 days of its launch, the command arrested 98 suspects in connection with 21 major cases, including armed robbery, kidnapping, thuggery, drug peddling, vehicle theft, fraud, and other crimes.
Among those arrested were four suspected kidnappers, twenty-one suspected armed robbers, five suspected drug dealers, twelve suspected vehicle thieves, four suspected fraudsters, five suspected thieves, and forty-seven suspected thugs.
The police also recovered several items during the operation, including six stolen motor vehicles, eight tricycles, ten motorcycles, thirteen mobile phones, sixteen cutlasses, ninety-eight knives, and vehicle parts such as five motor batteries and three spare tyres.
In addition, illicit drugs were seized, including thirty-five parcels and over one thousand wraps of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, eighty-six bottles of a substance known as “suck and die,” various quantities of Exol and diazepam tablets, and counterfeit US currency amounting to $10,000.
CP Bakori stated that Operation Kukan Kura has been integrated into the command’s broader crime-fighting strategy, which includes intelligence-led raids, visibility patrols, strengthened collaboration with other security agencies, and community engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, NGOs, and civil society organizations.
He thanked members of the public for their cooperation and assured them of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. He also encouraged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities through the police emergency numbers.
