A clash between herdsmen and youths in Lano village, Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, has resulted in one death and two injuries.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, was confirmed in a statement by the Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi.

The conflict began when youths from Lano village barricaded the Lano-Deba Road and allegedly attacked herdsmen crossing from Kuri village, killing five of their cows. The youths accused the herdsmen of seizing phones from local farmers and obstructing the transportation of farm produce.
“We received information that a group of youths from Lano village barricaded the Lano-Deba road and attacked Fulani herdsmen, killing five of their cows,” Abdullahi said in the statement.
In response, the Divisional Police Officer led a team to the scene to restore order. However, the situation escalated when some youths pursued the herdsmen into the bush, leading to a violent altercation. During the clash, three individuals were shot with bows and arrows and were rushed to the General Hospital in Deba. They were later referred to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe.
Tragically, one of the victims succumbed to stomach injuries while receiving treatment, while the other two remain hospitalized.
Abdullahi assured the public that the situation was under control, with security personnel and vigilantes patrolling the area to ensure the safety of villagers, herdsmen, and road users.
“The situation is under control, and we urge all parties to maintain peace and refrain from further violence,” he added.
