The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Shu’aibu Ibrahim, says no fewer than two million Nigerians have benefitted from the medical outreach of the scheme in the country.
Ibrahim said this while declaring open the 2021 NYSC medical outreach in Tekalau Primary Health Centre in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, on Monday.
He explained that the scheme’s Health Initiative for Rural Development (HIRD) had done a lot to improve health condition of the less-privileged across the country.
Ibrahim was represented at the event by the Kebbi State Coordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Mustapha Muhammad.
“I am pleased to report that, so far, over two million persons have been attended to by the NYSC medical teams on the health initiative for rural development (HIRD) platform.
“In addition to the treatment of patients, the medical outreaches also feature sensitisation of community members to disease prevention and care.
“Furthermore, the scheme has donated over 300 wheelchairs with the support of partners through this programme.
“Other approaches to the implementation of the HIRD include: establishment of community based clinics, setting up of clinics for the NYSC Secretariat, first Aid administration and humanitarian aid,” he said.
Ibrahim commended all the development partners for their contribution toward making the medical outreach a success.
Earlier, the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, Alhaji Muhammed Aminu, commended the management of NYSC for organising the programme at the rural community.
Aminu also advised the people of the area to embrace the medical outreach. (NAN)
