The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has started paying N44,000 in arrears to corps members across Nigeria, fulfilling a commitment made by its Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Akinyemi Nafiu.

Daily News 24 reports that the payment began on Monday, June 2, 2025, and is targeted at corps members from the 2024 Batch A Stream 1 and Stream 2 who were previously receiving the old N33,000 monthly allowance before the new rate of N77,000 was approved.
The N44,000 represents the difference between the former and current allowance rates for specific months during the adjustment period. This move comes after the Federal Government approved a new monthly stipend of N77,000 for corps members in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act of 2024.
Although the allowance was approved in September 2024, its implementation only started in March 2025, leaving corps members on the old rate until February.
Several corps members have confirmed receiving the arrears, with evidence shared on social media platforms such as X and Facebook. Among those who acknowledged the payments were individuals from both streams of the 2024 Batch A, whose testimonies indicate that the disbursement is ongoing and being done in phases.
The NYSC had earlier assured that both serving and recently graduated corps members would be paid once funds were released. The 2025 national budget allocated N430.7 billion to the NYSC, with N372.9 billion specifically designated for corps members’ allowances. This budgetary provision has enabled the scheme to begin the payment of arrears and implement the new monthly stipend.
