The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Borno State, on Tuesday advised corps members posted to the state to complement President Muhammad Buhari’s effort by being self-reliant.

The state’s NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Nura Umar, gave the advice at the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch A stream ‘l’ corps members’ three weeks orientation exercise at their temporary camp in Katsina.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Corps members posted to the state have been camping in Katsina due to the security challenges in Borno.

According to him, the corps members should complement the President’s efforts through the utilisation of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship (SAED) programme.

Umar explained that by doing so, it would not only complement the Federal Government’s effort, but would assist the corps members to stand on their feet after service.

“If the corps members can continue with what they were taught during the three weeks exercise, that will enable them to be self-reliant, and also make them job providers.

“After the three weeks training, there’s what we call post-camp training, therefore they should also focus more on that like they have done during the in-camp training.

“That is why we are appealing to all stakeholders to facilitate the speedy passage of the NYSC Trust Fund bill.

“By doing so, it will assist the corps members greatly in their entrepreneurial development,” he said.

The coordinator further assured the corps members that the scheme had made necessary arrangements with the relevant security agencies to protect them.

He urged them to shun any criminal act capable of tarnishing their image, and that of the NYSC, especially drug abuse, cultism and other criminalities. (NAN)
