The strike, which began as a seven-day warning action on July 29, was called off on Friday after a closed-door meeting between the union’s leadership and the minister in Abuja.
While the details of the agreement reached during the discussions were not made public, the suspension indicates progress in addressing the concerns raised by the nurses.
NANNM had embarked on the strike to protest the federal government’s failure to respond to demands related to their welfare, working conditions, and engagement with the union. The nurses had called for fair allowances and improved working environments in federal health institutions.
