A nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, has told the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, that late Nigerian singer Mohbad suffered an adverse reaction after she administered a tetanus injection to him.

Testifying on Friday, Ogedengbe stated that she was called to treat Mohbad on September 12, 2024, after he sustained a hand injury. She arrived at his Lekki residence, noticed the wound was swollen, and proceeded to give him a tetanus shot in his upper arm.

She explained that after confirming Mohbad had an ulcer, she opted for paracetamol instead of diclofenac. However, shortly after receiving the injection, Mohbad began to feel unwell, vomited, and developed goosebumps.

According to Ogedengbe, Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, dismissed the reaction as a usual occurrence for him. As his condition worsened, she and another individual, Ayobami, rushed to a pharmacy to get medication for the allergic reaction but encountered delays. By the time they returned, Mohbad had already been moved outside as arrangements were being made to take him to the hospital.

Due to a lack of vehicles and heavy traffic, Mohbad was transported on a motorcycle, but he was declared dead on arrival. Ogedengbe recounted that medical personnel initially hesitated to attend to him, adding to the confusion. After his body was taken back home, she and others proceeded to a police station to obtain a death certificate.

The Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions has indicated that Ogedengbe and Ayobami will face charges for reckless and negligent acts. The case has been adjourned until March 21, 2024, for further hearing.
