The election, which was conducted on Tuesday at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano, saw Adewale defeat his opponent, Ahmad Sorondinki of ThisDay, with 17 votes to 12.

Chairman of the credentials committee, Fanen Ihyongo, commended members for their orderly and peaceful participation during the election, describing it as a demonstration of their commitment to democratic ideals.

Other elected officials include Salihu Ali of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) as assistant secretary, and Longtong Yakubu of Leadership Newspapers as auditor.

Yusuf Bala of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) has been named vice chairman following an uncontested process. Also elected unopposed were Salim Umar Ibrahim of Daily Trust as secretary, Bashir Bello of Vanguard as treasurer, and Ramatu Garba of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as financial secretary.

Following the announcement of results, the acting chairman of NUJ Kano State Council, Mustapha Gambo, presented certificates of return to the newly elected officials.

In his acceptance speech, Adewale pledged to run an inclusive administration focused on unity, professional advancement, and the general welfare of chapel members.
