The National Universities Commission (NUC) on Tuesday inspected Huda University Gusau, a pioneer private University in Zamfara.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the six-member verification team was led by the Director, Establishment of Private Universities of the commission, Mrs Constance Goddy-Nnadi.

The Planning and Implementation Committee of the private university has Dr Salisu Muhammad as acting Chairman, with Mr Surajo Haske as Secretary .

Prof. Abubakar Matazu from Faculty of Law, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto is serving as Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Institution I’m.

Addressing newsmen in Gusau after the inspection exercise, one of the committee members, Dr Abdul Ahmed described the efforts to establish a private university in Gusau as a welcome development.

“We have visited the location, buildings and all the facilities of Huda University here in Gusau.

“You know there are procedures, you don’t just come today and make a conclusion.

“We have made our observations and advice to the planning and implementation committee,” he said.

According to Ahmed, part of their observations include:  Licence and ensuring accreditation of every programme before its commencement at the entry level,among others.

“We are impressed with all what we have seen in this university, we believe that it will complement government efforts in providing education to the citizens,” Ahmed added.

He urged the people of the state to emulate the founders of the in order to have more private universities in the communities.

Earlier, the acting Chairman, Planning and Implementation Committee, Dr Salisu Muhammad said the process for the establishment of the university started two to three years ago.

“We have solicited support and cooperation from the state government, traditional and religious leaders, community leaders as well as the academia, among others.

“We commended their support and cooperation which led to the realisation of this historic visit from the NUC.

“We will make sure that all the aims and objectives for establishing the university will be achieved and sustained,” Muhammad added..

According to him, the Institution will operate as a 21st century university of international repute.

Muhammad said: “This university will focus on ICT and Technology as well as community development.” (NAN)
