Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State apprehended a 45-year-old suspect, Umar Ibrahim, also known as “Danlami Tela,” on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

The arrest took place around noon in the Hotoro Yandodo area of Nassarawa Local Government, Kano State.

The suspect, identified as a resident of Dikke in Funtua Local Government Area, Katsina State, is allegedly linked to a notorious bandit kingpin involved in kidnapping and banditry across Funtua and nearby areas. According to a preliminary investigation, Ibrahim’s connection with the kingpin has raised concerns for security officials.

During the arrest, the NSCDC team recovered several items from the suspect, including an Android phone with three SIM cards and a Unity Bank ATM card. The NSCDC has since transferred Ibrahim to the Nigerian Air Force’s Forward Operating Base 215 in Funtua, Katsina State, which had reportedly been monitoring him prior to his capture.

Commandant Mohammed Lawal Falala, head of the NSCDC Kano command, emphasized the ongoing commitment to increasing surveillance and strengthening intelligence efforts. “We are intensifying our security measures to prevent armed bandits from entering Kano,” Falala stated, noting recent successes by security forces against bandit groups operating in neighboring states like Katsina, Kaduna, and Zamfara.
