Ganduje made this statement while addressing members of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Centre and the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
He urged northerners with presidential ambitions to remain patient, emphasizing that 2031 is the appropriate timeline for a northern presidency.
He reiterated that the APC’s zoning formula, which alternates power between the North and South, remains intact. Recalling that a northern president had governed for eight years before power shifted to the South, he maintained that the North would have its turn again in 2031 after Tinubu’s tenure.
Ganduje’s remarks follow an article endorsed by former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, which suggested that the North might oppose Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. The article likened the situation to the 2015 election, where the North allegedly withdrew support for former President Goodluck Jonathan.
