The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has refuted rumors that its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is considering defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kano State NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, made the clarification while addressing journalists on Friday, emphasizing that there are no plans for Kwankwaso or any senior members of the party to join the APC. He also criticized the ruling party for its perceived failures and what he described as its undemocratic tendencies.

Dungurawa pointed out that the APC has seen a significant decline in support, with recent elections revealing growing dissatisfaction among Nigerians with the party’s policies and leadership. He suggested that the NNPP is strategically positioning itself to capitalize on these weaknesses and provide a viable alternative for leadership when the time is right.

This comes after Abdullahi Abbas, the APC’s Kano State Chairman, expressed openness to the idea of Kwankwaso joining the party, but under specific conditions. These include registering at the ward level without special treatment, facing any pending corruption allegations, issuing a public apology for previous attacks on APC leaders, and agreeing to abide by the party’s constitution and rules.
