A faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s leadership, staging a symbolic burning of the Kwankwasiya movement’s iconic red cap in Minna, Niger State.

The faction, led by Dr. Gilbert Agbo, the factional National Chairman, accused Kwankwaso and his group of undermining the party’s progress.

During the North-Central Zonal meeting at the party’s secretariat, Agbo declared that Kwankwaso’s suspension by the National Working Committee (NWC) in Lagos had effectively ended his membership and influence in the party. “His suspension automatically means he is no longer part of the party’s leadership,” Agbo asserted.

Agbo also announced that Kano State governor, Kabir Yusuf, was set to face the party’s disciplinary committee over alleged violations of the party’s principles. The faction emphasized that burning the Kwankwasiya red caps symbolized their break from Kwankwaso’s leadership.

In response, Mallam Danladi Abdulhamid, the Kwankwasiya Movement leader in Niger State, condemned the faction’s actions, calling Agbo’s leadership “illegal.”

Abdulhamid argued that the faction’s efforts were driven by Agbo’s personal interests rather than the party’s welfare.

He further affirmed that under Dr. Ahmed Ajuji’s chairmanship, Kwankwaso remained the legitimate national leader of the NNPP.
