The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has disassociated itself from Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s plan to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying his decision is a personal one and does not reflect the position of the party.

Speaking in Lagos on Monday, the NNPP National Secretary, Dr. Ogini Olaposi, clarified that Kwankwaso’s declaration only confirms his earlier expulsion from the party over alleged anti-party activities.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, had on Saturday announced that he and his supporters were ready to align with the ruling APC. While making the declaration, he cautioned that his political movement would not allow itself to be used to win elections and later abandoned.
Olaposi explained that the statement shows Kwankwaso now operates outside the NNPP and that any negotiations with him should be done in his individual capacity.
He added that Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya movement were expelled after the 2023 election for allegedly plotting to hijack the party’s structure. The NNPP, he said, is now focused on rebuilding and consolidating its base across the country after the crisis triggered by his actions.
According to the NNPP scribe, Kwankwaso’s political influence has declined since his fallout with the party, as many of his followers have already crossed over to the APC without him. He noted that the former governor no longer has a strong political platform.
