The Kano State Chapter of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, has accused the state’s ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of inciting violence.

The Kano state chapter of the NNPP made this claim in a statement issued by its chairman, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, on Thursday.

Doguwa claimed that the altercation between Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the majority leader of the Federal House of Representatives, and Murtala Sule Garo, the APC’s deputy gubernatorial candidate, has caused Kano state to suffer yet another national embarrassment.

The chairman claimed that Garo and Alhassan are well-known for aiding and abetting political thuggery in Kano, and that if their conflict is not resolved, it could lead to killings and property destruction in the state.

“Alasan is on the rampage, and Murtala Garo must avenge himself, so the political atmosphere is already tense,” he said.

“The pair have also taken to social media to deflect blame for their unfortunate display of shame.”

“Since the beginning of the internal conflict, supporters of the two warring camps have gone on the rampage, destroying each other’s billboards and removing posters that do not belong to their bosses.” If this behavior is not immediately reined in, it could lead to major political violence, resulting in deaths and property loss,” he warned.

According to Doguwa, the APC leaders’ actions and inactions in promoting violence within themselves and with other opposition parties could be a clear testimony of the party’s failure, despite the party’s inability to secure citizens’ lives and property.

The NNPP also claimed that this is a clear indication of how the ruling APC’s fortunes in the state are dwindling ahead of the 2023 elections.

“I therefore implore the people of the state to refrain from voting for these rash politicians in a party incapable of putting its house in order, let alone governing a mega state like Kano.”

The chairman also declared that Kano residents supporting candidates who engage in street brawls would be a national disgrace.

“I am confident that the good people of Kano can still recall how Garo was arrested for violently clashing and destroying election results in Gama, Nasarawa Local Government, area with the support of his running-mate and incumbent deputy governor, Nasiru Gawuna, who were both compensated for truncating the 2019 election with APC tickets for the two highest executive seats in Kano,” he said.

The chairman went on to say that the behavior is a disgrace not only to the ruling APC but to the entire state.

The NNPP stated that security agencies should move quickly to the heart of the crisis in order to preserve Kano’s relative peace, citing the individuals involved and their track record of promoting political thuggery.

Meanwhile, the NNPP has urged Kano residents to vote against the ruling APC in the upcoming 2023 elections, citing the party’s promotion of violence in the state.
