The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Kano state chapter has explained the lack of payment of April salaries to state workers stating clearly that it is not their fault.
This was contained in a press statement by Dr. Kabiru Ado Minjibir, the chairman of NLC.
“The joint Public service negotiation council (JPSNC) representing public workers is the constituted organ mandated to sign agreements on behalf of workers with the government and ensure the signed agreement is implemented.”
“Workers and pensioners should note that the NLC and TUC on Their part deal with direct leadership of affiliate unions and not individual workers”
“Affiliate unions are solely responsible for information dissemination and handling of all grievances of their members as well as other statutory worker- union responsibilities” he added.
Dr. Kabiru reiterated that the JPSNC as the responsible body is doing its best to engage the government on salary related matters of public workers in Kano state.
“It has done its best to engage the government for the payment of April salary before salah which the government tried to pay, due to late and non release of FAAC allocation, all efforts proved abortive”.
He sympathized with Kano state workers and pensioners for the gloomy and critical low spirit Sallah celebrations which arises from the nonpayment of April salary and pension, which the majority of workers depend on to cater for their family.
The chairman advised all workers and pensioners to maintain a high level of patience and appreciate the efforts of the congress and other related bodies as the issue will be rectified soon.
NLC urged the leadership of affiliate unions and the JNC to stand on their obligations of defending, protecting and promoting workers and pensioner’s interest.
