The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) appointed Portuguese tactician, Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles Head Coach, 17 days after sacking Franco-German Gernot Rohr as Super Eagles coach.

According to the NFF a careful consideration of a memo presented by chairman of the technical and development sub-committee, the executive committee endorsed a proposal for the appointment of Mr Jose Peseiro as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, following the end to the relationship with Mr Gernot Rohr.

This move didn’t go well with Nigerian football fans and have blasted the NFF on social media for appointing Jose Peseiro, a portugese, to head the Eagles even as they prepare for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

@Banjizzle: We have Nigerians that are coaching well and doing fine. Many countries employ their old players or fellow continent players. Have you ever seen a retired African man managing a big team abroad? Dem use whites swear for Nigerians?
@Seriously? With just a week to the tournament. How can you expect a manager to work with players who he don’t even know their names? Are you saying that he will just come around and say AFCON we go…..This country is a mess!!!!… Poor management!!!!
@Iniestapeter: waster of resources and why not Okocha or papilo for the job?
@AbdulGid: Coaching job can’t be judged by how good you are as a player. It’s an entirely different realm and you need loads of experience.
@John_sings: That’s why we fail in everything as a country….Never plans well and all that… This country sha!!!
@PromiseMonk: Coach Oliseh can do this Job and would have been a better option as he brings discipline to the team.
@Olalexyy: They keep appointing coaches that know nothing about African football. Awon Oniranu.
61-year-old Peseiro spent his first eight years as a manager in the third and fourth tiers of Portuguese football, starting out as a player-coach at his last team In summer 1999 he was appointed at C.D. Nacional, which he helped promote to the Primeira Liga in just three seasons. In 2002–03, he led the team to a final 11th position.
