The Niger State Government has expressed deep grief over the tragic tanker explosion that claimed over 40 lives and injured more than 50 people in Essa community, Katcha Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Dr. Murtala Muhammad Bagana, the government described the incident as a devastating loss to the entire state and extended condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities.

Acting on the directive of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, Dr. Bagana led a government delegation to the explosion site and hospitals where survivors are being treated. The governor approved free and comprehensive medical care for all victims to ensure proper treatment and recovery.
According to Dr. Bagana, four additional patients have died from severe burns, while fourteen others have been transferred to the National Hospital, Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, and the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi in Abuja for advanced treatment. Others are receiving care at FMC Bida and the General Hospitals in Bida and Agaie.
The government also mobilized the Ministry of Health, State Emergency Teams, and the Katcha Local Government Authority to coordinate rescue and medical operations. Drugs and medical supplies worth over N10 million have been released to hospitals, along with cash assistance for affected families.
Dr. Bagana praised the management of FMC Bida for their swift and professional response and appreciated Hon. Saidu Musa Abdul, who represents Bida-Gbako-Katcha Federal Constituency, for providing ambulances that facilitated the evacuation of critically injured victims to Abuja.
