New Incentives, a non-governmental organization, (NGO) on Thursday organized a one-day review meeting in Kano, to restrategize its initiatives to strengthen routine Immunisation in three Northern Nigerian states.
Dr Obinna Ebirin, the National Coordinator of the NGO while delivering a speech at the meeting, said that the organisation has introduced conditional cash transfer to mothers.
He said that the cash transfer was an incentive to support the caregivers to maintain immunisation for their children.
He explained that the organisation aimed at increasing infant vaccination through cash transfers, raising public awareness, and reducing the frequency of vaccine stockout.
Ebirin explained that the initiative had recorded tremendous success through creation of the state’s Routine Immunisation coordination centres.
“Apart from conditional cash transfers to mothers of immunized children, we also deliver key health information to mothers at facilities,” Ebirin said.
The National Coordinator, therefore, appealed to states where the initiative was launched, to support with timely monitoring and evaluation of activities.
He pledged that they were planning to expand the initiative to other states of the Federation with the support of state government.
The Katsina state Commissioner for Health, Yakubu Danja, expressed gratitude to the organisation.
He pledged the support of the Katsina state government to assist the organisation in expanding its scope.
Also, the Zamfara state health Commissioner, Lawan Liman, pledged support to the activities of the organisation to ensure quality health for the children.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the New Incentives operates in Nigeria, running a conditional cash transfer program to strengthen Routine Immunisation.
The organization provides cash incentives to immunized children through their mothers, in order to empower them to sustain Routine Immunization.
It operates in three North Western states of Zamfara, Katsina and Jigawa. (NAN)
