A non-governmental organisation, the  Girls Talk Series movement, on Sunday, launched a massive campaign against breast cancer in Kano State.
The Coordinator of the movement, Dr Naima Idris, told the News Agency of the (NAN) that the movement decided to mobilise Kano residents, both men and women, to discuss cancer-related issues, since it was breast cancer awareness month.
According to her, “Both men and women need to know a lot about breast cancer because it doesn’t only start and end with women alone.”

“Breast cancer can be detected early and treated effectively and women diagnosed with early stage of cancer have a good prognosis”, Idris said.
Idris, however, advised women to ensure timely and regular check ups, to enable early detection of not just cancer but other diseases as well.
She added that awareness of breast cancer needed to be strengthened with a massive campaign because it deserved continuous mobilisation of all and sundry.
The coordinator said that the movement conducted a ‘walk and talk session’, where they moved round the state to create awareness of the disease.
“For sometime now, we have been conducting online awareness via Instagram and YouTube, before we later moved to schools.
“So far, we have visited many public schools to deliver lectures on diseases related to young girls and women  generally.”
“I can say that we have spoken to over 7,000 people off-line since we started. So, our awareness is ongoing as this is our contribution to humanity.” she said.
NAN reports that the month of October has been dedicated for Breast Cancer awareness across the globe and was being marked as an annual International health campaign, organized by major breast cancer charities and women groups, according to Wikipedia, the online global encyclopaedia.
