A Non- governmental organization, Khalifa Dankade, and Co. are also known as KDC foundation says it’s pushing for the reform of the almajiri system of education in northern country to ensure sanity of the system.

The founder of the foundation, Alhaji Khalifa Dankade made this known on Tuesday in Kano at a roundtable stakeholders discussion on the implementation of a comprehensive and sustainable Model for Almajiris.

He noted that neglect, poor attention, and improper recognition have endangered the lives of almajiri pupils which, he noted, had impacted the security, education, economic, and health systems in the country.

According to him, there was the need for stakeholders’ commitment in the struggle, noting that the Almajiri were members of Nigerian communities that deserved maximum attention.

“I am pushing for the Federal Government to recognize the system and allocate funds so as to improve it.

My prepared document is targeted at Recognition, Reform, and Mainstreaming of the Almajiri system, and we would send our recommendation to Kano State government for proper use” He added.

According to him, some schools have awarded skill training certificates to students especially in rural areas through his foundation and they undertook skill acquisition training on different trades besides the Quranic education, so as to have better opportunities in life.

At the end of a roundtable meeting, participants and the NGO agreed that soon, they would meet the traditional rulers, stakeholders, Tsangaya teachers among others to launch a campaign on the need to fully reform the Almajiri system of Education in Kano.
