The Local organising Committee (LOC), Nigerian Guild of Editors ((NGE), has solicited the support of security agencies for a successful annual convention scheduled for Kano, on May 29.

Dr. Sule Ya’u-Sule, LOC Chairman, made the request when the committee visited the Police, the 3-Brigade of the Nigeria Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Thursday.

Ya’u-Sule said that the committee visited the security agencies as part of its preparations to ensure the success of the convention.

“The purpose is to inform the security agencies of the Guild’s Annual General Meeting and convention and also solicit for their security support,’’ he said.

According to him, the visit was necessary for a view of the number of participants expected at the convention from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

“We have provided adequate accommodation for the over 258 participants expected to converge in the state from May 29 to June 2, 2021.

“Accommodations are provided within the vicinity of the venue for the event, so that movement will be easy during the convention.

“The LOC assures all participants of security and safety during their stay in the state. Hence, we are visiting the security agencies to solicit their full support for the success of the event,’’ he said.

Ya’u-Sule appreciated the security agencies for their reception and pledge to adequately provide support for the programme, adding that the Department of State Security had also assured the committee of a similar backing.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in Kano, Samaila Dikko, had assured the committee of its adequate support to ensure the success of the convention.

“I assure you that we are going to give you special treatment as we are going to inform the headquarters of your programme due to its importance,’’ Dikko said.

Also, Brig-Gen Sinyah Nicodemus, Commandant of the 3-Brigade, Bukavu barracks, assured the committee of their full support towards the protection of people and property during the event.

“We are going to inform our officers in charge of the area so that they can include the area in their regular patrols during the period of the programme,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 7-member LOC was inaugurated on April 27 and saddled with the responsibility of providing accommodation, local transportation, and feeding for participants. (NAN)
