A constitutional lawyer, Mr Realwan Okpanachi, says the Electoral Amendment Act signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari will bring lasting improvements in Nigeria’s electoral and democratic process.

Okpanachi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said he was positive because most of the clauses introduced in the new Act were aimed at strengthening the nation’s democracy.

According to him, this will go a long way in guaranteeing democratic atmosphere and level playing ground.

“The new Act will address factors and manipulations that undermined Nigeria’s democracy and authority of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free, fair and credible elections.

“We, therefore, commend President Buhari for his bold action and also commend our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC ) for her unrelenting support for Buhari,’’ Okpanachi said.

He noted that the party had mobilised and rallied the APC-controlled National Assembly into passing the legislation.

Okpanachi is also the Director-General of Asiwaju Project Beyond 2023, a frontline support group for Bola Tinubu. (NAN)
