This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Kano Command, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, who confirmed that the consignment was intercepted along the Kano–Hadejia Road. The drugs, packed in 60 cartons and concealed in a van, were seized after no documentation or legal ownership was presented.
According to the agency, the transfer to NAFDAC was in line with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between both agencies on November 24, 2024. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), had directed the immediate handover to NAFDAC for forensic testing and regulatory action.
The State Commander, ACGN A.I. Ahmad, reaffirmed the NDLEA’s commitment to inter-agency cooperation and emphasized that such collaboration is central to the agency’s strategy in combating illicit drugs.
On its part, the NAFDAC State Coordinator expressed gratitude to the NDLEA for upholding the MoU and pledged that the agency would continue to work hand in hand with the NDLEA to ensure public health and safety.
Both agencies stressed that the move highlights their joint determination to disrupt the distribution of unregulated pharmaceuticals and safeguard communities across Nigeria.
