The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recovered 150 blocks and three sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 112 kilograms following a road accident along the Zaria–Kano Road near Gadar Tamburawa.

According to the agency, the incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, when a Volkswagen Golf collided with a truck. NDLEA patrol officers, who were close to the scene, rushed in to render assistance and extricate the occupants of the car.

While attempting to rescue the passenger, officers said he tried to flee but was immediately apprehended. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the drugs.

The driver of the Golf, who is currently receiving medical treatment, reportedly confessed to acting on behalf of a consignor and admitted to making previous deliveries within and outside Kano. He also revealed that he had taken a one-way route in a bid to evade NDLEA checkpoints.

The truck driver, officials said, sustained a fracture during the collision.

The NDLEA described the case as involving both reckless driving and trafficking of narcotics. The Kano Command, under the leadership of ACGN A.I. Ahmad, assured that investigations are ongoing and promised that all those involved will face prosecution.

The agency commended the professionalism of its operatives at the scene and attributed their swift response to the leadership of NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd.), whose reforms have strengthened operational capacity across commands.

The NDLEA further urged members of the public to avoid participation in illicit drug activities and to report suspicious movements of narcotics to its offices.
