State Commander of the agency, Abubakar Idris, disclosed this at a press briefing in Kano, describing the feat as a major boost to the ongoing war against drug abuse and criminality being driven under the Kano State Joint Taskforce for Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation.
He said the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Correctional Service. The joint team raided several notorious drug hubs, including Kofar Ruwa, Tashar Rami, Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna, Zage, Dorayi Karshen Waya, Dawanau, Filin Idi, Research, Rimi Market, Zango, Kofar Mata, Kano Line and Ladanai.
Idris noted that the crackdown led to the seizure of a wide range of illicit substances, including cannabis, EXOL-5, diazepam, codeine syrup, “suck and die” and rubber solution, along with several locally made weapons recovered from the suspects.
He explained that the operation was launched to curb drug abuse, which has long been a major driver of crimes such as phone snatching, thuggery and other violent activities. According to him, residents have already begun to notice a reduction in drug-related offences following the intensified raids.
The commander praised the synergy among security agencies, crediting the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, for providing strategic leadership and acknowledging the surveillance support of the Department of State Services.
He also commended the Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for its consistent support for efforts aimed at reducing substance abuse and rehabilitating affected youths.
Idris urged community leaders, parents and civil society organisations to continue partnering with security agencies, stressing that collective responsibility remains crucial to sustaining the progress made in Kano’s fight against drug-induced criminality.
