The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has banned the airing of Eedris Abdulkareem’s new song, “Tell Your Papa,” on Nigerian radio and television stations, citing its objectionable content.

This move follows a directive issued on April 9, which warned broadcasters about the song’s violation of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. In the memo, signed by Susan Obi, the NBC’s Coordinating Director for Broadcast Monitoring, the commission expressed concern that the song criticizes President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies.
Abdulkareem’s lyrics target the president, urging his son, Seyi Tinubu, to inform his father about the struggles ordinary Nigerians are facing. The song includes lines that question the president’s leadership and accuse him of making empty promises.
The NBC’s justification for the ban points to the song’s perceived violation of public decency standards. The commission emphasized the need for broadcasters to exercise discretion and refrain from airing content deemed inappropriate for public consumption.
