The chemicals, believed to have been illegally imported into the country, include highly concentrated Nitric Acid (68%) and Sulphuric Acid (98.5%), as well as an oxidizing agent.
Officials of the agency discovered the substances stored in kegs inside the warehouse during a recent operation. NAFDAC said the nature of the chemicals found suggests they could be used in manufacturing explosives and other dangerous weapons, raising alarm over their potential threat to public safety.
The agency confirmed that the warehouse manager has been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the owner of the chemical products, who is currently at large.
Following the discovery, NAFDAC immediately sealed the warehouse and launched a full investigation into the source and intended use of the chemicals. The agency warned that the incident highlights the dangers of unregulated chemical imports and the need for strict monitoring to prevent misuse.
