A tragic incident has sent shockwaves through Zaria in Kaduna State, where a woman, identified as Khadija, allegedly beat her 11-year-old daughter, Fadila, to death over a missing N100 note.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening in the Tukur area, shortly before the Maghrib prayer. Residents say the mother accused Fadila of stealing the money given to her during the Sallah celebration. In a fit of rage, she reportedly used a pestle to inflict fatal injuries on the child.

The community has expressed outrage over the incident, with many neighbors refusing to attend Fadila’s funeral as a form of protest. Locals allege that Khadija had a long history of abusing her daughter, often subjecting her to beatings over minor issues, particularly relating to her street hawking activities.

Speaking to journalists, the victim’s father, Malam Mustapha Musa, said he was away when the incident happened and returned to the devastating news of his daughter’s death. He confirmed that he has since taken her remains to their hometown in Kano State for burial.

Khadija admitted to beating Fadila but insisted she had no intention of causing her death, attributing her actions to the pressure of the situation.

Security operatives from a local vigilante group were first to respond before transferring the matter to the police.

This disturbing case follows a similar incident in Yobe State, where a tragic family dispute led to the death of a 17-year-old boy, Abdulra’uf Abdullahi, allegedly at the hands of his own father.

The incident occurred on the night of Monday, June 9, around 10:00 p.m., in Chirokusko Village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area. During a heated argument, the father, identified as Danga Shiru Wanzam, reportedly stabbed his son in the chest with a knife.

While the exact cause of the confrontation remains unknown, police authorities responded swiftly and evacuated Abdulra’uf to the General Hospital in Babbangida. Sadly, he was confirmed dead upon arrival.
