Mojisola Meranda has stepped down as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, citing her commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the legislative body.

Her resignation comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the Assembly.

Meranda stated that the decision was not made lightly but was necessary to uphold the institution’s stability. Following her resignation, several lawmakers praised her tenure, highlighting her dedication and strong leadership.

Temitope Adewale Ifako-Ijaiye I described Meranda as a heroine of democracy and a victim of circumstance, emphasizing her contributions to the Assembly.

Kehinde Joseph, representing Alimosho II, also commended her resilience and humility, stating that despite her short tenure, she had made history and left a lasting legacy.

Following Meranda’s resignation, Mudashiru Obasa has been reinstated as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Obasa, who was removed from office over corruption allegations, has now reclaimed the leadership position. His removal took place on January 13 while he was abroad, and Mojisola Meranda was swiftly sworn in as his replacement.
