The family of the late Emir of Kano, Khalifa Sir Muhammadu Sanusi, has publicly distanced itself from the actions and behaviour of the 16th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, describing them as irresponsible and embarrassing.

In a statement released by Alhaji Isa Sanusi (Pilot), the family expressed concern over what they called the “unbecoming conduct” of Sanusi Lamido, which they said continues to bring shame to the legacy of their late patriarch. This followed a family meeting held during the Sallah celebration, where key resolutions were reached to safeguard the family’s good name.
One of the decisions was to dissociate the family from Sanusi’s controversial Sallah procession, which defied a police ban and a court order restraining him from parading himself as Emir. The family condemned the incident at the residence of elder statesman Alhaji Aminu Dantata, where Sanusi allegedly ordered palace guards to fire dane guns indiscriminately, an act the family described as dangerous and disgraceful.
The statement also disassociated the family from Sanusi’s alleged hostile stance towards members of the Ado Bayero family, making it clear that he is acting on his own and does not represent the values or position of the wider Sanusi family.
In a further move, the family advised Sanusi Lamido to stop using the name of their revered father, Muhammadu Sanusi, which they said he is dragging through the mud. They suggested he revert to using his biological father’s name and adopt “Sanusi Aminu Nadawaki” instead.
