On Thursday, two farmers were reported killed in a landmine explosion at Zango in the Kabrasha general area of Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the incident occurred around 2 p.m. when the farmers’ vehicle drove over a landmine believed to have been planted by terrorists.

He claimed that the farmers were transporting harvested farm produce when the incident occurred.

According to him, security agencies informed the state government about the killing of the two farmers.

As of the time of reporting, he stated that the state government was awaiting further details on the incident.

“Security agencies have reported to the Kaduna State Government the killing of two citizens in a landmine attack in Chikun LGA,” the Commissioner said.

“The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Thursday when the victims’ vehicle drove over a landmine clearly planted by terrorists in a location known as Zangon Tofa, in the Kabrasha general area, according to the agencies.”

“The incident occurred while the citizens were transporting harvested farm produce.”

“The two victims have been identified as Babajo Alhaji Tanimu and Safiyanu Ibrahim.”

Aruwan stated that Governor Nasir El-Rufai had consoled the victims’ families and prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls.

The governor, he said, urged residents to remain calm in the face of the crisis.
