The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) says the authority is considering biogas or biodiesel as an alternative to fuel for public transport operations in the state.
The Managing Director, LAMATA, Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
Akinajo noted that the effort was to promote the use of cleaner fuel for public transport operations.
“The move is considered a big step towards cleaner transportation as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the society.

“The consultants, Construction Plant Competence Scheme Transcom Ltd., are conducting a study being funded by Swedfund for LAMATA.
“The study entails investigating the use of biogas, biodiesel, renewable diesel and bioethanol as potential replacements for traditional diesel fuel in our bus fleet,” she said.
Akinajo noted that the recent progress report presented a detailed analysis of options, including characteristics, infrastructure needs, and implementation timelines.
She said the agency was particularly interested in biogas if it proves compatible with their existing fleet of Compressed Natural Gas buses.
“This focus on alternative fuels reflects LAMATA’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and adopting sustainable practices in line with international best practices.
“By exploring alternative fuels, LAMATA aims to create a cleaner, more environmentally friendly transportation system for Lagos,” she said.
