The vessel, named Igbega Eko, was en route to Victoria Island when the incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) confirmed the explosion and said all passengers and crew were safely evacuated.

LASWA said four passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated on site. In total, nine individuals including LASWA personnel, LAGFERRY staff, and passengers are receiving medical care and are responding well to treatment.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire, with LASWA working alongside LAGFERRY and other relevant agencies.

The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety, noting that existing protocols remain in place and that ferry operations will continue as scheduled.

LASWA praised the rapid response of emergency teams and thanked members of the public for their cooperation during the incident.
