The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, was on Friday allegedly attacked by Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the LP said Abure was quietly waiting to board a Max Air flight to Benin when Mama P suddenly descended on him. The confrontation, according to Ifoh, did not end there but continued onboard the flight and even after landing.

Upon arrival in Benin, security operatives intervened, escorting Abure to safety while handing the assailant over to the police. The incident further stirred reactions after Mama P appeared in a video bragging about her connections within the police force and suggesting she would escape punishment.

The Labour Party condemned the assault, describing it as “a suicidal aggression” and accusing “anti-democratic elements” of sponsoring the act. The party leadership urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly, trace those behind it, and ensure justice is served.

Calling for restraint, the LP appealed to its members not to take the law into their own hands but to wait for the outcome of security investigations.
