The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Agbo Gilbert Major, has affirmed that former presidential candidate and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is no longer a member of the party.

Speaking during a political programme on Trust TV, Major stated that Kwankwaso’s affiliation with the NNPP ended in 2023 and emphasized that the party has since moved on. He referenced internal party rules and various court declarations, including rulings from the Abia High Court and the Federal Capital Territory High Court, as legal grounds confirming Kwankwaso’s exit.
Major also addressed the recent wave of defections affecting opposition parties, noting that many of those leaving the NNPP were previously strong figures within the Kwankwasiyya Movement. He acknowledged their political influence and said their departure was linked to dissatisfaction with the movement’s internal operations, rather than with the NNPP itself.
Reacting to concerns over Kwankwaso’s current political alignments, Major dismissed any implications for the NNPP, insisting that the party has no formal connection with him since his departure. He urged public discourse to shift towards more pressing issues relevant to the growth and structure of the party.
According to Major, Kwankwaso’s involvement in the NNPP remains a part of its history, and his current activities are unrelated to the party’s agenda or operations.
