Salisu Yakasai, former spokesperson to Abdullahi Ganduje, has accused former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of opposing President Bola Tinubu’s recent tax reform bills because they do not serve his personal interests.

Dawisu, as he is popularly known, made the claim on Monday via a statement on his X account. This comes after Kwankwaso, in his recent remarks, alleged that the “Lagos Axis,” which he described as Tinubu’s supporters, was attempting to impose its policies on the North.

Dawisu responded, suggesting that Kwankwaso’s criticism of the reforms stemmed from the fact that the policies did not align with his personal goals. “Kwankwaso is crying foul because Tinubu’s policy does not align with his interests,” he wrote.

He further reminded Kwankwaso of the political maneuvering in 2014, when the “Lagos Axis” allegedly intervened in the selection of Kano’s Emir.

Dawisu recalled that when Emir Ado Bayero passed away, the “Lagos Axis” reportedly lobbied for the appointment of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, despite his not being among the three nominees put forward by the Kingmakers.

“At that time, you were the governor of Kano, and you agreed to the decision after the ‘Lagos Axis’ promised to support your presidential ambitions in 2019,” Dawisu said, referring to Kwankwaso’s actions in aligning with the Lagos group against the wishes of the majority of Kano’s people.
