Former Governor of Kano State and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has been conferred with an honorary doctorate degree by Northwest University, Kano, in recognition of his enduring contributions to the education sector.

The award was presented on Saturday, July 26, 2025, by the Chancellor of the institution, His Royal Highness Justice Sidi Bage (Rtd), the Emir of Lafia, during the university’s second convocation ceremony.
Kwankwaso was honoured for his pivotal role in founding the university in March 2012, during his second term as Governor of Kano State. The institution has since grown into a symbol of his vision to expand access to quality education in the state.
His legacy in education dates back to his first tenure as Governor between 1999 and 2003, when he established the Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil. The university was later renamed Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, in recognition of its contribution to science and innovation in Nigeria.
The colourful convocation ceremony drew the presence of top dignitaries, including Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf; Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo; Emir of Kano, Alhaji Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II; Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Jibril S. Falgore; federal lawmakers, and other prominent personalities.
