The move follows an incident on August 5 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, involving the musician and aviation personnel. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed the decision on Wednesday while unveiling measures to address recent cases of disorderly conduct at airports nationwide.
As part of the resolution, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will reduce KWAM 1’s flight ban from six months to one month. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will also partner with him to raise awareness on proper passenger behaviour and security protocols within aviation facilities.
In addition, the NCAA will withdraw its criminal complaints against the musician, citing his public apology and expression of remorse.
The incident occurred when KWAM 1 reportedly clashed with airline staff and security while attempting to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos. He was accused of carrying a prohibited flask, spilling its contents on officials, and obstructing the aircraft’s movement. The artiste later explained that the flask contained water for medical purposes and expressed regret over his actions.
