Thirty-one traditional rulers from the South‑East Yagba District in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State have expressed shock and disappointment after a video emerged showing former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye verbally assaulting Hon. Leke Abejide, the lawmaker representing Yagba East/West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency.

In an open letter obtained by a PlatinumPost correspondent on Friday, the monarchs condemned Melaye’s remarks as unacceptable, describing them as “false, baseless, and insulting.” They reaffirmed their full support for Abejide and urged the former senator to abandon what they termed “politics of bitterness and divisive rhetoric.”

The letter, signed by all 31 royal fathers, warned that continued hostility could bring “the wrath of our ancestors” and displease the people. It read in part: “We are shocked by your recent video where you insulted Elder Leke Abejide, our esteemed son and Representative at the House of Representatives. Your attack reflects poorly on you and shows a lack of the ‘Omoluabi’ virtue expected of a true Yoruba descendant.”

The monarchs called on Melaye to engage in constructive dialogue and foster respect, saying: “Stop the politics of rancour and divisive rhetoric, lest you incur the wrath of our ancestors and the displeasure of our people. Focus on constructive dialogue so that our land may prosper and our Okun people may live in peace.”

The correspondence was led by HRM Oba Alhaji S. A. Mohammed, Olukotun of Ife‑Olukotun (Chairman), and HRM Oba Lamidi Folorunsho Ayeni, Elejuku of Ejuku Kingdom (Vice‑Chairman), alongside other traditional leaders from across the district.
