Koko, who represents Besse/Maiyama Federal Constituency, announced his defection in a letter presented during a plenary session. Speaker Abbas Tajudeen read the letter to the House, confirming the lawmaker’s move.

Explaining his decision, Koko attributed his defection to what he described as a “protracted crisis” within the PDP. His departure follows a similar move by Amos Gwamna Magaji, a PDP lawmaker from Kaduna State, who also left for the APC, citing internal party issues.
However, House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda dismissed Koko’s claims, insisting that disagreements exist in all political parties, including the APC and Labour Party. He urged the Speaker to declare Koko’s seat vacant, referencing constitutional guidelines.
In response, Speaker Tajudeen clarified that the House lacks the authority to unseat members, stating that such decisions rest solely with the courts.
